Call of Duty: WWII is the latest entry in the Call of Duty video game series, and in many ways, it can be seen as a rebirth as well. Why is that? Even if the Call of Duty series is widely known for its ventures in the modern or futuristic time periods, the first COD games took place during WWII. What this means is that you will have a great time revisiting the same old time period from the first games, but with revamped graphics and a much better multiplayer.
What makes Call of Duty: WWII different?
Right away, you will note that Call of Duty: WWII removes the advanced movement system from the previous games. On top of that, the gameplay is a bit more challenging, especially since the campaign doesn’t feature any health regeneration. However, you do have health regeneration in multiplayer, which is a bit of an inconsistency here. That being said, you will be a part of a squad, and you can easily spot enemies as you see fit. The soldiers can be captured you can also drag allies to cover.
Call of Duty: WWII also has some RPG elements, since even in the campaign mode you can get XP and use it to boost your skills. You can even control vehicles in the campaign as well. As for the multiplayer, you get pretty much the same old gameplay you know from the latest COD, but without the futuristic approach.
During the Call of Duty: WWII beta, we got to see that the gameplay is still very fast paced, and the WWII weapons are depicted with great accuracy. At the same time, you also get to be a part of divisions, there are 5 divisions in total, and each one of them comes with unique weapon skills, training, and perks.
There’s also a Headquarters feature which seems borrowed from Destiny, here you can enjoy a really distinct way to change your gear, interact with other people and so on.
Is Call of Duty: WWII worth your time?
Based on the beta version, Call of Duty: WWII seems like an evolution of the series, even if it has to go back in time when compared to the previous versions. Even so, Call of Duty: WWII offers a solid gameplay, and at the same time it manages to be pretty exciting thanks to the fast-paced multiplayer and interesting campaign mode.
People love playing COD because it’s fun, and Call of Duty: WWII is going to maintain that sense of fun and fast-paced gameplay that people love about the series. Call of Duty: WWII shows that a shift towards WWII may be the right direction for the series. Only time can tell that but even so, Call of Duty: WWII is a solid entry in the series, and it manages to offer some great additions like the headquarters and a Play of the Game-style showcase that improve the experience. The game is set to release November 3, so it’s almost in our hands!
